There are a variety of resources available to you for more information on students with disabilities:

At your school

School Nurse

You can obtain specific information on safety issues, any medical emergencies and their plans -- for example, some students are allergic to latex.

Special Education Resource Teacher

The resource teacher can help with behavior programs. Also check with the school psychologist.

Occupational and Physical Therapists

These specialists have information on specific exercises and the do's and don'ts related to specific disabilities.

Challenge Alaska - this site provides information about opportunities for physically disabled Alaskans and encourages competition at all levels of ability

CDC Web site for Girls - This is a Web site for girls and their parents regarding the importance of calcium and exercise on healthy bodies.  This site includes a “Powerful Bones Toolbox” with recopies, activities and a list of foods that contain good supplies of calcium.

CDC Web site for Kids - This is a Web site for kids that discusses diseases, food nutrition, physical activity, safety, and "your life and your body."

CDC Web site for Teachers - This is a Web site for teachers to help them learn how to extend student’s view of physical activity beyond organized sports.   There are downloads, activities and lesson ideas as well as related materials on disabilities and physical fitness.

Council for Exceptional Children - a site dedicated to the voice and vision of special education

Flexiciser- is a machine, much like an elliptical machine, that has been modified for someone in a wheelchair.  The machine provides a healthy, safe and new way for individuals in wheelchairs to get their exercise, while still sitting in their chair.
