Healthy Futures is a grassroots movement empowering Alaska's youth to lead more physically active lifestyles.
Since 2003, Healthy Futures has supported a variety of community fitness events. Additionally, we work closely with health and physical education teachers to get kids in the habit of daily physical activity through the Healthy Futures Activity Log program.
Anchorage Youth Deserve a Healthy Future
Today’s youth are not as active as they should be. In a study conducted by the Anchorage School District (ASD) and the State of Alaska, it was found that 36 percent of all ASD students and 32 percent of kindergarten and first grade students were overweight or at risk for becoming overweight. (Anchorage only)
Kids need a minimum of 60 minutes of vigorous physical activity each day to build strength, endurance, healthy muscles and bones. Without it, they face tough problems like obesity, anxiety, stress, and lower self-esteem.
