Academic gains for English language learners

With more than 90 languages spoken by ASD students, the diversity of the community is visible in nearly every classroom. Children new to Anchorage enter school with varying English speaking abilities. Teachers and administrators are working together to overcome language hurdles and make sure all students receive a quality education. Recent test scores show educators are on the right track. In 2006-07, English language learners made AYP in all performance categories at every ASD school.
