Above and beyond…
Each year members of the Anchorage
School District staff are singled out for making exceptional
contributions to education. The
following list highlights a sample of noteworthy achievements:

Linda Hulen, a teacher at Bowman Elementary School in Anchorage, has been named Alaska History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and Preserve America.

Rhonda Gardner, Heidi Postishek, and Jennifer Schmitz were named among "Alaska's Top Forty under 40".

Arlene Sandberg, from Mountain View Elementary School, was name as the 2006 Alaska Teacher of the Year by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.

Damon Carey from Polaris K-12 School was named as the 2005 Alaska Secondary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Alaska Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Four more ASD teachers earned their National Board Certification in 2005, bringing the total number of nationally certified teachers to 27.
Alison Mall, a math teacher at Bartlett High School and Judith Onslow (pictured at right), a science teacher at Girdwood K-8 School received the 2005 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Kathy Bell from Lake Hood Elementary School was named the 2006 Alaska School Nurse of the Year by the Alaska School Nurses Association.
