Communications & Community Outreach
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 1967, is a federal law that gives individuals the right to access information.
State of Alaska Statutes, 40.25.110 – 40.25.125 govern the disclosure of information and public records requests.
How to Make a FOIA Request: Before making a request, look to see if the information you are interested is in already publicly available through the Anchorage School District. If the information is not available, you may submit a FOIA to ASD Department of Communications and Community Outreach. A FOIA form is available for online submission or a request in writing may be made reasonably describing the records you seek. The request must be made in writing.
Alaska Statute provides that agencies may charge a fee for providing copies of public records and the ASD costs are:
Photocopies - $0.20 per page
Audiotapes -- $10.00 per tape
FAX -- $0.50 for the first page and $0.10 for each additional page
The Alaska law does not specify a time requirement for responding to public requests. ASD has set a limit of ten (10) business days within which to respond, and the District may take an extension for an additional ten (10) days.
If you wish to submit a request in writing, you may send to:
If you have any questions, you may direct the questions to the FOIA email.
