Physical Therapy

The Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant

Physical Therapists (PTs) and Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) are health care professionals who work with individuals who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives.  PTs evaluate each individual and develop a plan to improve the ability to move, restore function and prevent disability.  In addition, PTs and PTAs work with individuals to develop fitness and wellness oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles.

PTs and PTAs provide care for people in a variety of settings, including hospitals, private practices, outpatient clinics, home health agencies, schools, sports/fitness facilities, work settings and nursing homes.

Education and Licensing

All PTs and PTAs must receive a degree from an accredited Physical Therapy or Physical Therapy Assistant program before taking the national licensure examination that allows them to practice.  Each state requires a state licensure to practice within that state.
