ASD Climate and Connectedness Survey
The Climate and Connectedness Survey provides schools with information about the perceptions and experiences of students,
staff and parents/guardians for use in setting school goals and redirecting resources.
The survey will give principals and school staff valid and reliable data regarding school climate and connectedness, which have
been shown to be pre-conditions for learning to take place.
The student and staff surveys were designed by the American Institutes for Research in conjunction with the Association of Alaska School Boards.

Student Survey
Students will take the survey at their school, during the survey window (January
19 to February 10, 2010). Students
enrolled at AVAIL, COHO, Continuation, COHO, Crossroads, Family Partnership,
Frontier and Highland Tech will complete the survey online, which will
only be available from their principal/teacher.
Students in grades 3-4 answer questions about Caring Others and Social and Emotional Learning. The grades 5-12
questionnaire asks about School Leadership and Student Involvement, Respectful Climate, High Expectations, School Safety,
Peer Climate, Caring Adults, School Danger and Social and Emotional Skills. If you would like to view the survey please

Parent/Guardian Survey
In an effort to increase the return rate, parents/guardians will have multiple opportunities to complete the survey.
Parents will complete one survey for each of their children in school. In the case of dual guardianship, surveys will

The 2009-10 Climate and Connectedness Parent/Guardian Survey window is open during March 22 through June 30, 2010.

Staff Survey
ASD school staff will complete the survey online from January 19 to February
10, 2010. If you would like to

2009-10 Climate and Connectedness Staff Survey. The Assessment
and Evaluation Department will e-mail the survey web link to every staff member in each school (teachers,
administrators, counselors, support staff, etc.) on January 19th.
The 2009-10 Climate and Connectedness Staff Survey window is open during January 19 through February 10, 2010.
