Media coverage corrections

Anchorage Daily News

On September 22, 2006, the Anchorage Daily News ran Beth Bragg's column —"Ex-NFL tackle isn't playing games with city's youth violence" — that included a factual error. The error and the correct information is outlined below.

School Resource Officers

Quote from Beth Bragg's column

Text of above quote: The School District found the financial means to put police into high schools. Surely it and the city can find resources to let Tosi give his urban liaison idea a chance.

ASD Response

The Anchorage School District does not fund School Resource Officers that work in our schools.  These uniformed officers are part of the Anchorage Police Department and are funded through the Municipality of Anchorage, APD budget.   The program began with a federal grant and continues with APD/municipal funds.

Officers play a very important crime prevention role in school and they also serve others in the community.   They respond to community and neighborhood calls when needed.  When school is not in session, these officers are reassigned to traditional police duties.
