The Anchorage Daily News used significantly erroneous figures in its charts. When listing the teacher and principal salaries, it appears the ADN compared the superintendent’s current salary to other salary schedules that are more than two years old.

In the most recent negotiated agreement, teachers and members of the teachers’ union will receive a three percent raise this school year. For the following two years, the raise amounts to four percent each year. Teachers not already at the end of the salary schedule will receive one “step” or experience increase in each year of the contract. Each step generally increases a teacher’s salary by two percent. Salary increases may also be obtained with educational attainment.

Comeau has turned down salary increases two times and in 2004 requested that any board recommended salary increase be small. Since being appointed superintendent in 2001, Comeau’s salary increases have averaged about 3 percent.
