2009 Executive STAR Award winner
Rhonda Gardner
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction

Rhonda GardnerRhonda Gardner has been a big asset to the School Business Partnership program since she took on the role of Assistant Superintendent of Instruction in May of 2006. In that capacity, she is responsible for representing the ASD on the board of directors as well as the Executive Committee. Despite her extremely busy schedule and multiple responsibilities in the district, Rhonda has been able to attend most monthly meetings, committee meetings and retreats where she shares her insight and ideas for the partnership program. She has been successful in bringing new partnerships to the program as well as recruiting board members. In addition to her board functions, Rhonda signs and oversees district-wide partnerships.

Executive Director, Tam Agosti-Gisler states, “I enjoy working with Rhonda Gardner. I appreciate her positive attitude, her calm demeanor and good sense of humor, but most of all, her ability to problem solve rationally and effectively. I will miss her when she retires in June. ”

“Rhonda has been a strong supporter of the School Business Partnership program and has proved needed liaison between the schools the SBP board of directors. She is an outstanding leader and will be sorely missed when she retires. I have enjoyed working with her very much.” Carol Comeau, ASD Superintendent

SBP Board Chair Brian Griggs says, “I love having Rhonda Gardner on the board. She is a generous, inspiring and wonderful mentor. She has been a “go to” person for all things school district related.”

2009 Executive STAR Award winner
Curt Zakrzewski
The Odom Corporation

Curt ZakrzewskiCurt Zakrzewski has been active in the Partnership Program for 12 years, serving on the board of directors and then as treasurer of the program for the past three years. He handes bills and payment approvals, and he is responsible for working with the bookkeeper to bring monthly financial statements to meetings for the board to review. Curt is diligent and consistent in fulfilling his commitment as treasurer.

In addition to his work on the board, he represents Aurora Vending in their partnership with Central Middle School. This partnership has been maintained for over 11 years. Curt has arranged presentations in the classroom on the “do’s and don’ts” of filling out job applications and has participated in Mock Job Interviews for students. Curt was able to arrange a “Live It” presentation for all Central students with Olympian Rosie Fletcher to encourage students to get or remain physically fit. Donations of equipment and products and use of the company’s coin counting machine for fundraising events are just two of the ways that Curt Zakrzewski and Aurora Vending have been a staunch supporter of their partner. His company also has a partnership with Chugach Optional.

Executive Director, Tam Agosti-Gisler states,” I remember well an event that Curt supported when I was teaching a School Business Partnership Class. The students decided to raise money to help build a Habitat for Humanity house being erected in honor of one of their deceased classmates. They decided to build a house from cases of soda cans in the Sears parking lot and to advertise the event as “Deconstruct this house to build another!” Curt not only donated the product and had it delivered, but he also came out to assist in the sales. That is a committed business partner!”

Rhonda Gardner, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and SBP Board member says this about him, “ Curt’s commitment to young people and to the School Business Partnership organization is truly inspiring. He is a quiet hero, working steadily and consistently to move the mission forward. This is a man who cares.”

“The thing I love the most about Curt is that he is so generous, but without being flamboyant or seeking attention for all the good that he does. He’s been an invaluable board asset to the program for twelve years.” Brian Griggs, SBP Board Chair
