Introduction

Alaska State Department of Education and Early Development annual monitoring of the Anchorage School District:

  • Describes the district's strengths
  • Alerts us to compliance errors we are making
  • Provides an opportunity to improve

Strengths
Fall 2006 monitoring found eight strengths in student files:

  • The files were very well organized
  • Material in the files were placed in chronological order
  • Progress reports were noted in the students’ files
  • Every student reviewed had an IEP
  • Access forms are present and in use
  • Procedural Safeguards are provided and available to staff and parents
  • Use of Prior Written Notices are good

Errors
Fall 2006 monitoring found errors in:

  • Evaluation Summary and Eligibility Reports (ESER)
  • Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP)
  • Repeat errors from previous monitoring
  • Writing measurable goals and objectives
