ASDSA is over and it grew again. Some rough numbers for this year's academy:

• Over 1,670 enrollments
• Over 1,000 participants from numerous school districts and states
• Over 2,500 credits

Qualifications:

    * At least 5 years of exemplary teaching experience, the past 3 years in ASD
    * A willingness to encourage and assist a colleague
    * Strong interpersonal skills
    * Exemplifies teacher leadership within school community
    * Open minded with a positive perspective
    * Considered by principal and colleagues as a master educator
    * Respected by principal, parents, and colleagues

Requirements:

    * Complete an application process and receive approval, based on the following:

             * Mentor Communication Skills Training
    
Benefits:

    * Up to $800/year after matching with mentee
    * Release time for observation and debrief
    * Further develop teacher leadership skills
    * Contribute to the education profession

Who Qualifies?

    * First and second year educators
      (First and second year educators will be given priority in matches)
    * New-to-Anchorage School District educators
    * New-to-program educators, new-to-grade level educators, and experienced educators who request to work with a mentor
      


What services are available?

    * Up to 1 year of mentoring by an exemplary ASD educator
    * Release time for observation
    * An opportunity to reflect on best practice with a trained mentor in a non-evaluative setting

    * Up to 10 hours coaching by a trained AEA instructional coach
    * Up to 4 days of release time for classroom observation
    * An opportunity for confidential assistance and direction working toward meeting state teacher performance standards
