Pupil Transportation Department

Photograph of four busses lined up for loading students. The goal of the Anchorage School District Pupil Transportation Department is to provide safe and efficient transportation for students eligible for school bus service.

Currently, Anchorage School District transports approximately 20,000 students on 252 buses, to and from school, on a daily basis. These buses will cover over 1,300 routes daily and travel 3,000,000 miles annually, providing 6,000,000 passenger trips annually. To accomplish this task Anchorage School District operates 84 buses and contracts with Forsythe Transportation.

Students who live more than a mile and a half from school, or must cross a roadway designated as hazardous, are provided school bus transportation.  Students who are on zone exceptions must provide their own transportation to and from school, unless approved in writing in advance by the transportation department.
