Student safety is our top priority

An increasing number of students are reporting that they feel safe in our schools

Each day we welcome your child into our school. Their safety is not negotiable and it is our top priority.

In our society, there are greater concerns about safety and that is reflected in our schools. Unfortunately, we cannot control for everything, but we can prepare, plan and practice. We have emergency action plans in place and practice them regularly.

Our goal is to provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for all students and staff because we know if a student is not feeling safe, the learning potential is reduced.

Projects at our schools include:

  • Duress alarms in every school
  • Electronic door locking mechanisms in every elementary school
  • Intra-school communication improvements

Anchorage School District Goals and Initiatives for 2016/17

The aspirations and requirements for educating students in today's world are vastly different than they were even a decade ago. In order to ensure we are providing the best education possible to our students, we must have a shared vision with a strategic focus. The district's comprehensive, multi-year plan to increase student achievement outlines where we want to be and provides a roadmap to help us get there. This plan will shape educational opportunities around the community's ever-evolving needs and build upon the momentum of the last several years.
