Alaska Native and American Indian Heritage Month - November 2008
Each November the nation celebrates Alaska Native/American Indian Heritage Month. For the past six years, Anchorage has joined the rest of the nation through a variety of community and school activities.
Alaska Native/American Indian Heritage Month is honored throughout our city. For more information visit the organization's Web site at www.alaskanativeheritagemonth.org.
This booklet assists with honoring Alaska Native and American
Indians with calling attention to the 10,000 year history of Alaska Native and American
Indians who today comprise the second largest ethnic group in the Anchorage School
District, the first being white. The individuals and groups gathered for this book are eager to make presentations,
answer questions, and share his/her Native culture in the classroom. All presentations
from the individuals and groups listed in this book are FREE during the month of
November.
There are many community members and organizations that have worked collaboratively
to see this project to attrition. Each shares in the responsibility to meet and exceed in the
academic, social, and cultural needs of our students. Please take some time to thank the
efforts of The CIRI Foundation, The Alaska State Council on the Arts, Key Bank, Healing
Racism in Anchorage, Alyeska Pipeline Company and the Anchorage School District.
The speakers should also be acknowledged as well.
