Board Issues Statement on Superintendent’s Annual Evaluation

The Anchorage School Board has completed an intensive evaluation of Superintendent Deena Bishop’s performance for the 2016-17 school year. The Board is proud to have Dr. Bishop serving the Anchorage School District and our students. It has been a pleasure to work with her and her team.

The Superintendent’s expertise in and her ability to use data to inform teaching practices and positively impact student performance is exceptional. She shows genuine concern for and interest in ALL student groups’ proficiency and growth in line with the mission statement of the Anchorage School District.

Dr. Bishop’s use of innovation and data to drive operational efficiencies is outstanding. Her work with staff to construct and present a transparent budget process which engages all stakeholders has been exemplary. The Board feels Dr. Bishop’s communication skills with the board and stakeholders, her ethics, integrity, and commitment to public education are outstanding.

We have set ambitious Destination 2020 goals for our children in the areas of proficiency, attendance, graduation rates, safety and security, and district efficiencies. Under Dr. Bishop’s leadership, we are making progress towards meeting those goals. The Board looks forward to working with Dr. Bishop to meet all of our board goals and initiatives by 2020.

The Board voted today to extend Dr. Bishop’s contract to June 30, 2020, reflecting the addition of one year to the remaining two years in her current contract.
