Developing Exemplary Educational Leadership

Lamp-of-learning-2 ‌In the Professional Learning Department, we strongly believe that effective leadership is essential to the success of every child.  DEEL (Developing Exemplary Educational Leaders) is a career ladder for administrators.  The primary purpose of the DEEL program is to nurture, educate, and sustain an exceptional cadre of educational leaders.  It is a four-tiered structure.


Level I

Strong teacher-leaders, who are considering a career in administration, are provided a leadership credit class including on-site training and exposure to the principalship.


Level II 

The Administrative Trainee Program provides an authentic and substantive preparatory experience for aspiring administrators who are enrolled in an educational leadership program.


Level III 

The Principal Mentoring Program (Mentee level) and Mentor Training Programare in the process of being revamped.  In the mean timenew school administrators can apply for a mentor through the Alaska Statewide Mentor Project.


Level IV

The Leadership Academy serves as the cornerstone of our Administrative Program by providing opportunities for all of our leaders to develop and further refine their individual leadership skills.
