School choice options announced for Mountain View students
The Anchorage School District has designated Chester Valley Elementary School and Inlet View Elementary School as the two school choice options for Mountain View Elementary School families during the 2003-2004 school year.
Parents will be offered the choice of keeping their children at Mountain View Elementary or transferring them to one of the two other schools because Mountain View did not make Adequate Yearly Progress, as defined by state and federal education regulations, for two years in a row.“Mountain View students have made academic gains, and the school has talented staff and committed leadership. It is a good school which has made significant academic progress, but it did not meet all the strict requirements for AYP,” said Superintendent Carol Comeau.
ASD will provide school bus service from Mountain View Elementary School to the two other elementary schools.
Letters explaining the choice are being mailed to Mountain View parents. Applications for choosing one of the two other schools are available at the Mountain View school office. Applications must be turned in to the Mountain View school office by Monday, September 15. For more information about the two schools of choice, the application and the letter to parents, visit www.asdk12.org/NCLB/AYP/choice.asp.
