29 out of 431 Mt. View students apply to attend other schools

Parents of 29 students at Mountain View Elementary School have applied to send their children to either Chester Valley Elementary or Inlet View Elementary. The deadline to apply closed on September 15. Mountain View had to offer school choice to parents because it did not meet No Child Left Behind’s Adequate Yearly Progress definitions for two years in a row, despite significant gains the school made in students’ academic achievement.

Nineteen students selected Inlet View Elementary School, and 10 selected Chester Valley Elementary School. Under NCLB regulations, ASD must provide transportation to the schools for the 29 students.

Superintendent Carol Comeau and ASD staff will spend the next few days developing plans for transporting the students to the two schools. Comeau’s goal is to begin busing on Monday, September 22.
